You probably already know about the big summer blockbusters: movies like "The Dark Knight Rises," "The Amazing Spider-Man" or "The Expendables 2" are hard to ignore. But what about the unsung heroes of summer, the smaller movies that don't make a big splash at the box office but are still a good watch? "Moonrise Kingdom"

Release Date: May 25

This one has already hit theaters, and the reviews are pretty spectacular: "Moonrise Kingdom" has a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes thus far, making it one of Wes Anderson's highest-rated movies yet. It has the idiosyncracies of Anderson's other works (which include "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou"), but even more heart. Go for the impressive cast, stay for the story.

"Safety Not Guaranteed"

Release Date: June 8

Take two phenomenal actors (Jake Johnson and Aubrey Plaza) from two phenomenal TV shows ("New Girl" and "Parks and Recreation") and put them in a movie with an intriguing premise, and you have "Safety Not Guaranteed." The story follows a couple of journalists as they attempt to cover the story behind a guy who claims to have discovered time travel. It's quirky, it's funny, it's heartfelt, and the early reviews are pretty great.

"Seeking a Friend for the End of the World"

Release Date: June 22

Another high-concept comedy with heart, "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" aims to be another notch on the "success" column for Steve Carell's movie career, to help offset some recent "fails." Carell plays a middle-aged man who, when he and the rest of humanity discover that the world will be ending soon because of a huge meteor, has a bit of a midlife crisis. Keira Knightley co-stars as the girl who becomes his companion as the two set out to right any past wrongs and enjoy their remaining time on Earth.

"To Rome with Love"

Release Date: June 22

The early indications from Woody Allen's newest comedy, "To Rome with Love," are that it doesn't quite measure up to his very successful and critically acclaimed (and Oscar-winning) "Midnight in Paris." But if "Rome" can provide even half the magic that "Paris" did, it could still be a great film. Plus, the impressive cast, which includes Jesse Eisenberg, Alec Baldwin, Penelope Cruz and Ellen Page, is a reason to check it out.

"Sleepwalk With Me"

Release Date: August 24

Mike Birbiglia is a stand-up comedian and storyteller with a real-life problem: he sleepwalks. A lot. One time he actually dove out of a second-story window in his sleep. Like the Hulk. "Sleepwalk With Me" is a cinematic adaptation of Birbiglia's one-man show detailing his struggles with sleepwalking, intercutting his real life with his very vivid--and strange--dreams. Winning the Dustbuster Olympics and being awarded a bouquet with a baby in it? Yeah, that's pretty weird. This will be a strange little movie, but early reviews are all positive and Birbiglia's humor shines through every medium.
